Chapter 1
This story is told by the third person’s point of view. Afghanistan had a huge affected life by the Taliban-rule. There are 5 examples of the problems, which is treatment of women, dress codes, war, living conditions and education and literacy. Kabul was a beautiful city but after the rule is changed, the living condition became really bad, buildings have been destroyed, and bombs and rockets taken over by the Taliban. And also, the Taliban had ordered all the girls and women in Afghanistan to stay inside their homes. They even forbade girl’s to go to school. So, Parvana and her siblings are not allowed to go to school and her mother had been kecked out of her job as a writer, only her father can go to work and go get to foods and drinks.
Chapter 2
Parvana’s father is a history teacher, an intelligent man and modern thinker. He believed in women’s rights. Parvana’s mother was a writer for a radio station but after the rule changed she felt bored in stay the house. Standing on a land mine died Hossain who is Parvana’s elder brother. Nooria who is Parvana’s elder sister is young women that she will get married. Parvana thinks her sister is treated like a princess. Maryam who is Parvana’s younger sister is 5 years old. Ali is Parvana’s baby brother. The purposes of Parvana’s father telling this story is to teach don’t give up hope. The reason why Parvana’s father calling Parvana “my Malali” is because father thinking Parvana is going to be a hope in the family.
Chapter 3
In this chapter, we learnt about the women cannot go out without permission note from man. The photographs were illegal in Afghanistan, it represents the life in Afghanistan is rigid discipline. The photograph was tore into pieces by soldiers and they hit Prvana and Paevana’s mother with a stick. The significance of the last lines of the chapter is Paevana and Parvana’s mother were could not bring back their father. They lost their hope, there was nothing can do with Parvana and her mother. The soldiers were did not allow to see their father to them and also they keeping drive away Parvana and her mother from prison.
